Tradition and innovation, rules of know-how and design methodology: classic artisanal techniques, advanced digital tools, and design culture that opens the mind to the future. A path that ends with the development of a final project of a shoe that sums up each student’s individual ability to blend creativity with technical expertise. If you want to become a complete and knowledgeable professional, who can take on any role dealing with the product in the shoe industry, with a technical and design culture worldwide recognized, the one-year shoe diploma is without a doubt the right choice for you.

The Shoe One-Year Diploma includes the following interconnected educational “missions”:

10-week shoe design classes starts with hand sketching and drawing of shoes and its components with a focus on sole design. Then students learn how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to make professional-level drawings. The training is completed with the learning of tools and methodology to build a collection: specifically students learn how to work with a brand, how to develop a merchandising plan, to define the target and to elaborate the moodboard starting from inspiration from trends but also how to source materials to express creativity and to transform it into an innovative and consistent design. Instructors, who are experienced professionals, lead students with a design background and new comers to build up a shoe collection with the correct marketing positioning, a knowledgeable materials research and a professional graphic layout.

Right after the shoe design classes, students start a 15-week shoe technical path, aimed at providing all the technical tools needed to engineer and prototype men and women shoe styles as well as sneakers. First of all, students start working with shoe lasts, then they learn the pattern making methodology, undisputed asset of Arsutoria School. Students start with traditional cardboard, then they move to use the 2D CAD software. Several hours are dedicated to learn how to use machines for preparations and stitching in the sample room of the School. At the end of this training students are able not only to engineer a shoe upper but also to sew the first samples of the shoe upper itself.

The following 5 weeks are dedicated to work on an individual final project. The starting point is one of the designs created during the first 10 weeks classes. Lasts, soles, heels and materials can be chosen among those available at the school or sourced from the network of Italian suppliers that are connected with the School. Students work side by side with Arsutoria School’s instructors to create the technical project. A team of experienced sample room technicians joins the team to help students make the final prototype. A unique experience on the panorama of Italian and international fashion schools, made possible by the technical skills and sample room facilities at the leading school for shoemaking in the footwear industry.

During the last 8 weeks of the Shoe One Year Diploma, students work with 3D design softwares such as iCad3D+ and Rhinoceros. The objective of this last part of the training is to be able to create digital prototypes of shoes. With all the design and technical skills acquired across the previous classes students will be able to leverage the softwares at their highest levels.
