Born in the late 1950s to support automotive design, through increasingly advanced software, it has evolved over time to become a fundamental tool in the design interaction between designers and technicians. 

To be able to communicate and visualize a shoe project in a more realistic and complete way and therefore enhance its effectiveness and precision in the technical and style details, you need tools that speak a common virtual and visual language.

This language can be shared by the pattern maker and the designer and which is at the same time highly technical and stylistically realistic in the representation of the project.

At the end of the Arsutoria School 3D Design course you will have learned to work with new modern, reliable and, above all, widely used tools in the footwear sector.


You will learn to represent your shoe ideas starting from the shape, through the outsole and arriving at the final renderings, collaborating and exchanging digital files for the technical development of the product from the upper and sole components, which will make the dialogue between everyone easier: designers, technicians and product developers.

3D design with icad3d+

The use of tools for drawing the 3D upper on last, from the simplest to the most complex, the revenue from virtual pieces and the application of accessories for rendering with colors, offsets and textures. You will have the opportunity to insert numerous technical details in the virtual model such as seams, laces and padding and you will carry out the final export for the creation of the photographic rendering.

You will learn the design of heels, soles and the fundamentals of sole design for sneakers and casual shoes, as well as importing 3D files generated by other softwares.

You will learn the use of both 2D design and simple and more advanced 3D modeling functions, to obtain effective and rapid results. Starting from the 2D drawing, you will learn the development for the 3D design of the soles, the design of some accessories and heels, and the “rendering” of the final design of the entire shoe.

Finally, you will be able to learn the process of exporting files to other 3D CADs (eg iCAD3D+ and Illustrator), which will allow you to better manage the interaction between different software, which is the basis of the working methodology of the teams involved in the design of the footwear.
