3D BAG DESIGN: THE COURSE COMBINING RHINOCEROS AND CLO3D IN THE WORKFLOW OF THE DIGITAL BAG DESIGNER

The goal of the course is to learn how to use two software programs that can work together in the creation of the digital twin of a bag.

In the handbag industry, digital design is introducing new ways of managing the sample development process.
Today, companies are looking for professionals capable of understanding constructions, volumes, component design and product engineering in order to create digital twins of bags even before physical prototyping begins. To respond to this evolution of the industry, Arsutoria School launches the new edition of the 3D Bag Design course, an intensive 5-week program created to provide a complete overview of the workflow behind a new professional role: the Digital Prototyper.

The course will be taught by Laura La Marca, a former Arsutoria School student with experience as a Leathergoods Designer working both with luxury companies and independent brands. “The course combines two tools that are becoming increasingly relevant within the industry: Rhinoceros and CLO3D. The goal is not simply to learn two software programs, but to understand how they interact in the design and development of a bag.”

COURSE STRUCTURE – 5 WEEKS
The first two weeks will focus on the design of metal hardware using Rhinoceros. Through lessons and practical exercises, students will start by modeling simple elements such as studs and rivets before moving on to more complex components including buckles, zippers and chains. This process will allow each student to build a personal library of metal accessories.

During the following three weeks, the focus will shift to CLO3D and to the construction of the bag’s virtual prototype. The process starts from 2D patterns (covered in a separate course), which are assembled using CLO’s stitching simulation tools and, starting from the latest software release, adhesive bonding functions as well. One of the key characteristics
of Arsutoria School’s teaching method is maintaining constant attention both on the use of digital tools and on product knowledge itself. The foundations of design remain the same whether working with manual or digital tools, because at the core of every project lies the critical ability to identify the right constraints and opportunities.
